Dear incoming Class of 2028,
I’m sure you are feeling a pretty wide range of emotions right now- excitement about your upcoming independence, stress over the unknown quickly approaching, nostalgia for leaving high school behind, anticipation about all of the “firsts” yet to come, that’s all completely normal to feel, we’ve been there. These next four years will be a whirlwind, but there are so many extraordinary experiences you have to look forward to. With that in mind, we’ve compiled a few things we’ve learned from our time at SMU so far…
1. A JD’s Chippery Diet Coke (with lime!) and Snickerdoodle cookie is the perfect mid-day, study snack pick me up! (Honorable mention goes to their Cherry Limeade)
2. A Dallas brunch is unmatched anywhere else, especially the morning on a boulevard!
3. Never underestimate the power of a walk on the Katy Trail and a Shug’s bagel.
4. A late night (or early morning!) Fondren Library study session with good company is always worth it.
5. Sometimes, all it takes is starting a conversation and putting yourself out there to make a life-long friendship.
6. Don’t be afraid to make a change. Whether it be changing your major or changing your daily Starbucks order, it’s rewarding to switch it up.
7. College may only be four years, but a Sisterhood is for life.
8. Running home to Alpha Chi Omega on bid day was the best choice we’ve ever made!
These next four years will fly by, but they will be some of the most exciting times in your life. Enjoy the little moments that cultivate the incredible friendships, experiences, and opportunities you’d never expect. SMU may be where you find the friends you never knew you could live without; we know we did. The moment we ran home to 3020 Daniel Ave, we were showered with unrelenting encouragement and constant support. We truly couldn’t imagine ourselves anywhere else!
The women of Alpha Chi Omega are so excited to welcome you to campus this fall, and we hope you have an amazing summer!
With love, Megan and Sophia
